Charolotte Bankruptcy Lawyer Sees Major Upturn in Business
Ask the typical Charlotte bankruptcy lawyer if their business is increased from last year, and the answer will be affirmative, almost to a lawyer. Few of them, however, are rejoicing in the large increase in business. Far from it. They are seeing first hand how tragic it is to deal with the loss of home and lifestyle — not too unusual as things go. But hardly ever has it been on this type of mass scale. The Charlotte bankruptcy lawyer is the mediator in the crises that has pitted, in many cases, the ordinary debtor citizen against the citizen creditor. The lawyers are working to stabilize the economy.
This is no easy task, especially when people have delayed down to their last dime their coming to seek help. Had some taken professional advice prior or at least had a plan of their own in place, chances are the law offices would be much less packed than today.
They are not to be blamed entirely, though.
There has been a perfect storm of economic disaster in the last year or so. It started with the real estate bubble popping and has continued through job loss, business closings and a financial meltdown that wiped out savings. If only one or two of those events had occurred then the people waiting patiently and impatiently in offices might not now be there.
There is little solace for the lawyers. They are working overtime to help a great many individuals with a stressful situation.
Most of the people who end up in a bankruptcy lawyer’s office are there because they have reached the end of the line. There are no more economic life preservers to toss in the hopes of staving off a potentially life changing event.
Many found their legal representation through normal channels. They asked relatives or trusted friends and got a name or two. Sometimes they went to the internet and researched web site to web site and found several good prospects.
With a lawyer retained they went in wit their case and talked over their situation. Sometimes they might be surprised to find their lawyer advising not to file consumer bankruptcy, but often were explained the differences between Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. Chapter 7 is a liquidation of all but exempt assets and Chapter 13 is to work out a repayment schedule for some or all creditors.
The Charolotte bankruptcy lawyer is busy — busy working with local citizens and their sometimes local creditors to work out an equitable settlement. In the short run it may seem like a disaster, but in the long run it will help the economy recover and thrive.
