Get Immediate Access To Your Free Credit Report

You have the right to receive a free annual credit report so don’t get scammed into paying for it or subscribing to a service to access it. Under a new amendment to the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, Equifax, Experian, and Transunion, our national consumer reporting agencies, are required by law to provide each and every citizen of the United States of America a free annual credit report. You are required to provide each agency your date of birth, social security number, name, and address before you can obtain the free credit report.

There are many deceiving advertisements which entice you with a free credit report only to get you to sign up for a service or purchase a product you don’t necessarily want or need in order to access your free credit report. Only one website online is the legitimate source for your free annual credit report and that is annualcreditreport.com. Many services online have purchased misspelled domains hoping to redirect you to their site and attempt to charge you for something to gain access to your free credit report. So be careful not to misspell their address.

As an alternative to ordering online the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies have set up one central toll-free telephone number, and mailing address through which you can order your free annual credit report. To order your free credit report call 877-322-8228, or complete the Free Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. Remember not to contact any of the three reporting agencies directly to get your free credit report. They will not provide you with the free annual credit report.

Each of the nationwide consumer reporting agencies are going to ask you questions, for your own security, for information that only you could possibly know. The questions will pertain to information in your file such as a previous address and or the amount of a regular payment you make on a loan. Each agency collects the information they have obtained in your file from different sources so more than likely they will each ask you different questions. Remember you are not required to purchase anything to obtain your free annual credit report. So don’t feel obligated to buy anything while you are on the authorized free credit report website.

If you request your free credit report online you should be able to access it immediately unless your security questions do not match. If for some reason your answers to those questions do not match the information in your file the credit reporting agency will deny you immediate access to your free annual credit report for security and mail it to your address on file instead. If you order your free annual credit report by phone or by mail your request will be processed and mailed to you within 15 days of them receiving your request.

There are other alternatives to receiving a free credit report even if you already obtained your free credit reports for the 12 month period. The laws state that if you have been denied credit and request a report within 60 days of receiving notice your entitled to a free credit report. Federal law also states that if you are unemployed but expect to apply for employment within 60 days, the victim of identify theft and place a fraud alert in your file, your file contains inaccurate information as a result of fraud, or if you are on public assistance, you are entitled to a free credit report.

If none of the free options to get a free credit report are available to you then you will have to purchase a report for a small fee of around $10.00. You can contact the credit reporting agencies as follows: * Equifax: 800-685-1111; http://www.equifax.com * Experian: 888-EXPERIAN (888-397-3742); http://www.experian.com * TransUnion: 800-916-8800; http://www.transunion.com.
